The Holiday Project began in San Francisco
in the 1970's. It started when a few individuals bought
gifts and went to visit people who were shut in during
the holidays.
It has since grown to include the whole
country. Each year, 10,000 Holiday Project volunteers
visit with 10,000 people confined in hundreds of institutions
in communities throughout the United States. Since the
inception of The Holiday Project over 400,000 volunteers
have visited over 3 million people in hospitals, convalescent
homes, AIDs wards, psychiatric facilities, children's
wards, homeless shelters, battered women's shelters, prisons
and juvenile detention centers.
The Holiday Project is much more than
it's impressive statistics. It is a program of greater
impact than the simple distribution of gifts might suggest.
The real story takes place in the lives of the people
who participate in The Holiday Project... the people who
give to each other a lasting gift... themselves. The Holiday
Project is people being with people.
The Holiday Project is incorporated
in the State of California as, The Holiday Project of
Northern California Inc. Our organization is managed wholly
by volunteers from every occupation, social and economic
background.
